shutterstock_758305354Christmas is almost here, and we couldn’t be more excited! Christmas is a time to relax, eat delicious food, watch our favourite festive movies, and spend a much-needed quality time with our friends and families. With adults having time away from work and kids having time off from school, your house will no doubt be much busier and more crowded than during the remainder of the year. We are here to provide you some very helpful suggestions for the best way to protect your hardwood floors over the Christmas period.

Be careful with your Christmas tree

One of the most exciting areas of the build-up to Christmas is choosing the perfect tree and spending time decorating it. While nothing quite beats the smell and look of an actual tree, many folks will instead opt for an artificial tree for their home. Artificial trees will usually come with a metal or plastic rack, which may scratch your hardwood floors, therefore it is a good idea to place a rug or mat beneath your tree to protect your flooring.

If you can’t live without a real tree, then there are some precautions you should take to minimise any possible damage. Actual trees will need to be stored in a pot, therefore putting something under this to limit the chances of water leaking on your floors is advisable. Real Christmas trees are notorious for dropping needles everywhere as well, so choose its positioning attentively. Attempt to set it into a corner where people will not be always cleaning beyond it and knocking needles off. You should also regularly sweep or vacuum up any loose needles from the ground, to prevent people walking on them, dragging them around your floor.

Be wary of increased foot traffic

As we’ve already said, over Christmas we all enjoy spending some extra time with our families and friends. With this increase in socialising comes an increase in foot traffic in your home, however. Don’t worry though, you do not have to prevent inviting guests in your house for fear of damaging your floor, just refer back to our top tips on entertaining guests in a house with hardwood floors .
